Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn - Isle of Anglesey County Council

Council leader

Councillor Llinos Medi

Anglesey Council Leader, Councillor Llinos Medi, confirmed the members of her Executive on 31 May 2022.

Developing the economy and local housing, providing children and young people with the best opportunities; supporting families and communities; and meeting Net Zero targets are amongst the new team’s priorities.

The Executive is made up of seven members of Cllr Llinos Medi’s ruling Plaid Cymru group and two from coalition partners, Y Grŵp Annibynnol (The Independent Group), led by Cllr Ieuan Williams.

As Leader, Councillor Llinos Medi will focus on representing Anglesey in both regional and national matters. This will include her role on the Welsh Local Government Association, North Wales Economic Ambition Board and other regional responsibilities relating to planning and transport.

Councillor Medi said, “The next council term (five years) will bring significant challenges as we work to protect our services and deliver an ambitious new Council Plan on behalf of the people of Anglesey. We must support families in need, especially as the cost of living rises, and continue preparations to ensure our communities benefits from economic opportunities.”

“Meeting the challenge of providing suitable housing for local residents and supporting first time buyers will also be a priority, together with providing children and young people with the best education opportunities and meeting our ambitious Net Zero targets.”

The council’s commitment to becoming a carbon neutral organisation by 2030 is reflected in an Executive portfolio, as Councillor  Nicola Roberts takes responsibility for Planning, Public Protection and Climate Change matters.

Councillor Medi added, “As a ruling Plaid Cymru group, working in coalition, we want continued stability and to lead a modern council, which performs well in the eyes of residents, partners and regulators. We will also ensure that our Island has a strong voice both regionally and nationally.”

“I firmly believe we have an excellent team, combining a wealth of experience and new ideas, on an Executive which will move the county council forward.”
